SCULPT

Spatial Control Using Linear Photonic Transformations

Sculpting light to unlock the connections we’ve already installed.

SCULPT develops optical interconnects that carry independent data channels through different spatial patterns of light in the same fiber, expanding the useful capacity of installed connections.

Make the shape of light
part of the connection.

SCULPT develops controlled launch and calibrated recovery of independent information channels through multimode fiber. Spatial-mode engineering opens a path to more useful connectivity through existing optical infrastructure.

Spatial-mode engineering

Shape. Transmit.
Recover.

Mode shaping, optical transformations, propagation modeling, and channel recovery are developed together. The work connects optical design with calibration and signal processing.

Earlier higher-order-mode experiments inform the approach: control the light entering the fiber and understand the structure emerging from it.
