behind the engineering.
Laser development, nonlinear optics, lidar, and optical systems. The team brings complementary depth across the company’s core capabilities.

CEO & Founder
Jeffrey Perkins, PhD
Dr. Perkins leads Alpha Photonics’ laser, optical-engineering, and sensing work. His experience connects source architecture and physics-based modeling with fiber-component fabrication, rugged packaging, and system development.
He previously served as Chief Engineer for laser products at II-VI / Coherent and Q-Peak. His prior work includes high-power fiber amplifiers, thulium and ytterbium laser systems, fiber interfaces, and packaging processes for demanding optical applications.
- Education
- PhD in Physics, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa
- Technical background
- Fiber amplifiers, specialty components, optical systems, and measurement control
Laser Science & Nonlinear Optics
Kevin F. Wall, PhD
Dr. Wall brings more than four decades of laser-development experience spanning solid-state and fiber systems, amplifier modeling, nonlinear conversion, and thermal analysis.
His prior roles include Principal Research Scientist at NKT Photonics, senior scientific and management positions at Q-Peak, and Staff Scientist at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. His work spans laser design and manufacturing, harmonic generation, optical parametric systems, and finite-element thermal modeling.
- Education
- PhD in Applied Physics, Yale University
- Technical background
- Laser development from ultraviolet to infrared, nonlinear optics, and amplifier analysis
Senior Contributor
Patrick Perkins, PhD
Dr. Perkins brings more than 35 years of experience in passive and active remote sensing, from land to space. A retired Senior Fellow at Lockheed Missiles and Space, he served as chief system architect for laser deployments supporting active sensing.
His experience spans wavefront sensing and control for airborne and space-based laser systems, as well as long-range, two-way ground-to-space laser communications. He connects system architecture with the optical sensing and control needed to make complex laser systems work.
- Education
- PhD in Physics, University of Tennessee, 1980
- Prior role
- Senior Fellow, Lockheed Missiles and Space, 1989–2018
- Technical background
- Active and passive remote sensing, wavefront sensing and control, and laser communications
